Teaching music - percussion in particular - is a very important part of what I do! I have been fortunate to learn from many teachers who have inspired me to teach and perform. The goals of my teaching are to catalyze students' potential into expressive and creative achievement, to develop students' individual voices by connecting healthy, efficient, and effective technique with versatile musicianship, and to give students tools to be independent musicians and self-directed learners.
During the school year, I teach percussion lessons through The Music Center, City Arts Greensboro and in the summer, I am on the Instrumental Music faculty at North Carolina Governor's School West. I have had the pleasure of teaching through many institutions at the collegiate and pre-college levels in North Carolina and in New York state. I also give presentations, masterclasses, and residencies to support students and music educators at all levels.
I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees with double majors in music education and performance (BM from the Eastman School of Music and MM from Northwestern University). I completed the teacher certification process in New York (Music K-12); since moving, I have transferred my certification and I now have an active license in North Carolina.
